Welcome to the first nonthemed, open-call issue of TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly.
When we first planned the launch of this journal way back in 2013, we as editors and Duke University Press as our publisher were on the same page with regard to making each issue of TSQ a special issue on a particular subject or theme. From the press's perspective, it helped them market a narrowly framed interdisciplinary journal to wider audiences in order to build readership and subscriptions, and from our perspective, it helped to build the field of transgender studies by demonstrating the relevance of trans scholarship to a variety of topics and disciplines that might not, at first blush, seem remotely related to trans studies. We're generally pleased with how that strategy has worked out over the past four years.
