Abstract

In concert with recent attempts to move beyond long-standing psychoanalytic equations of transsexuality with psychoses, this article offers some possible ways to consider “the Tiresian” as a site of both cissexual and transsexual fantasy and analytic fictions. It is interested in both the utility of a nonpathologizing psychoanalysis for trans people and in the capacity of trans people's literary writing to offer alternative imaginaries, knowledges, and analytics through which to reread and revise psychoanalytic conceptions of identity (sexed, raced, gendered) in relation to desire, time, and the human.
