Close Encounters of the Anxious Kind: Notes on Transfeminine Exclusion from Sports and Dating

Tristan Venturi is an independent scholar whose main areas of research interest fall at the intersection of media studies and queer studies. After earning his BA in communications magna cum laude from John Cabot University in 2016, Tristan went on to pursue graduate studies at King's College London, where he obtained his MA (Dist.) in film studies in 2021. Tristan specializes in film and audiovisual studies, women's and gender studies, and queer and transgender theory. His current research interests include the exploration of cinematic and televisual representations of transgender embodiment as inherently deceptive, as well as the Italian media coverage of transgender citizenship in relation to anti-gender movements and populist notions of Italianness.
