Musings on attempts to determine the purpose behind the creation of an album discovered by the author in the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam. The album originally was in the Tropenmuseum’s predecessor, the Colonial Museum, and was created by a named photographer for a company active in the Dutch East Indies in the early 20th century.
