This essay explores the concept of the ecstatic and the soul in the work of José Esteban Muñoz and Jean-Luc Nancy. It uses these notions to argue for an ecstatic ontology and elaborates such an ontology through the work of installation artist Dave McKenzie’s art piece Fear and Trembling (2009) and James Baldwin’s novel Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953).
