Fredric Jameson, Anders Stephanson, Stanley Aronowitz, John Brenkman, Sohnya Sayres, Andrew Ross, and Randy Martin discuss the role of the collective in the journal's political-intellectual work. They reflect on the alleged founding principle of Social Text: the idea that politics was not organized around parties but journals. The collective offered a way to learn theory and practice as political issues: it came up with political interventions that were urgent, of the moment, and had a theoretical cast.
