Authorized Disruption: John Hawke and Orange Work, 2005–2010

John Hawke's unauthorized interventions into public space aim to recode street spaces and remind of utopian possibilities of communality. Featured projects, such as “Orange Work,” created in collaboration with his fellow artist Sancho Silva, blurs the boundaries between public and private, sculpture and building site, and stealth art and public works. Also featured are sign revisions that question the limited utilitarianism of public space and its historical interpretation.
