In this interview we sit down with one of the founding voices of environmental history, Donald Worster, to discuss the state of the field and to reflect on the impact of his 1982 essay, “World without Borders: The Internationalization of Environmental History,” which proclaimed that environmental history, because of its interest in material nature, offered a unique approach to historical inquiry that “move[s] easily across national boundaries.”
