In a wide-ranging interview, Harvey Molotch asks his longtime friend Howard S. Becker (more commonly known as Howie) about his fifty years “in the business” of ethnography, methodology, and “telling about society” as well as his motivations for doing sociology. Becker reflects on his conceptual framework and how it has played out, or failed to play out, in the sociological discipline.
