What's Old Made New: Canon, Adaptation, Visualization

John S. Garrison is professor of English at Grinnell College, where he teaches courses on early modern literature and culture. He is coeditor of three essay collections: Sexuality and Memory in Early Modern England: Literature and the Erotics of Recollection (2015), Ovid and Masculinity in English Renaissance Literature (2020), and Making Milton (forthcoming). His books include Shakespeare at Peace (2018), Shakespeare and the Afterlife (2019), and Performing Gods in Classical Antiquity and the Age of Shakespeare (2020).

Saiham Sharif is a class of 2020 graduate of Grinnell College, with a major in English. He is a Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellow, completing a two-year research project on how receptions of Hamlet by contemporary authors of color interpret the play's theme of cognitive dissonance. Under the auspices of the Mellon-Mays program, he has presented at two regional conferences and participated in a summer-long research institute at the University of Chicago in 2019. He plans to pursue a PhD in English.
