Jessica Grieser is an associate professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan. Her research takes discourse analytic and variationist approaches to study the linkages between language and race and place identities, African American Language, and language and gentrification, as well as language online. She is the author of The Black Side of the River: Race, Language, and Belonging in Washington, D.C. (Georgetown University Press, 2022), as well as several articles in American Speech and other journals.
