On page 100 of the print version of the article, the author's biographical note should read:
robert higney is assistant professor of English at City College, CUNY. His current book project, “The Ends of Empire,” examines character, narrative form, and the concept of the institution in the modernist and Anglophone novel.
This error has been corrected in the online version of the article.
