This essay speculates about the future of the novel and the novel's futurism, focusing on the ethics of this form given its historical links to the emergence of the Enlightenment subject under capitalism and the nation-state. Do we still need or desire the novel? Is the novel still capable of novelty, of imagining new forms of subjectivity, material relations, and social systems?
