This essay reviews and critically contextualizes a recent group exhibition at University of Massachusetts Amherst. The show was part of a larger program considering the legacy of W. E. B. Du Bois. It featured artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Julie Mehretu, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Jefferson Pinder, and continues on to Accra, Ghana in 2014.
