In this conversation Brendan Wattenberg and Grace Ndiritu discuss several of Ndiritu’s videos, in particular The Nightingale, Natural Disasters, and Journey’s North. They talk about Ndiritu’s filmmaking practice, the concept of self-portraiture, shamanic journeying, and the three schools of contemporary African art.

Brendan Wattenberg is director of exhibitions at the Walther Collection Project Space in New York. He holds a BA in English and Africana studies from Haverford College and an MA in Africana studies from New York University. He has assisted with exhibitions at the Museum for African Art and Autograph ABP, and he is a contributor to The Future Is Now: A New Look at African Diaspora Studies, edited by Vanessa K. Valdés (2012).
