Moira Roth is the Trefethen Professor of Art History at Mills College, Oakland. This text on Ringgold is #7 in her ongoing series of essays, collectively entitled Traveling Companions/ Fractured Worlds. Roth is also the co-author of Difference/Indifference: Musings on Postmodernism, Marcel Duchamp and John Cage. She is the winner in 2000 of The Frank Jewlett Mather Award, the lifetime achievement award in criticism from the CAA
