Barbara Fuchs is associate professor of Romance languages at the University of Pennsylvania. She is author of Mimesis and Empire: The New World, Islam, and European Identities (2001), Passing for Spain:Cervantes and the Fictions of Identity (2003), and Romance(2004). She is working on a book on “maurophilia” and national identity in early modern Spain.

David J. Baker, professor of English at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, is author of Between Nations: Shakespeare, Spenser, Marvell, and the Question of Britain (1997) and coeditor of British Identities and English Renaissance Literature (2002).
