Julie Candler Hayes is chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Author of numerous articles and books on eighteenth-century topics, she is completing a book on translation theory in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century France and Britain.
