In the fall of 2018, LAWCHA’s president, Julie Greene, established the Task Force on Sexual Harassment to develop an antiharassment policy for the organization. She appointed Colin Davis, Keona Ervin, Mary Frederickson, Robyn Muncy (chair), and Lane Windham, all of whom are grateful for this opportunity to report on our work.

The task force first devoted itself to study. We canvassed other professional organizations to see what sorts of policies they had in place. We read reports on harassment’s forms and effects. We studied the research on what makes a policy effective. We talked with multiple individuals currently involved in creating or enforcing such policies for their own organizations, those training organizations to craft and implement policies, and others providing legal advice to such organizations.

Based on this research, we crafted a broad antiharassment policy that prohibits harassment on the basis of any group affiliation. Some professional organizations have developed...
