We are happy to publish the first thematic issue of the Journal of Korean Studies following the transfer of JKS from the University of Washington to Columbia University. Guest edited by Steven Chung (Princeton University) and Hyun Seon Park (Yonsei University), the fall 2017 thematic issue, “The Cold War in Korean Cinemas,” offers seven articles that complement each other in the ways they each redefine not only Korean cinema but the Cold War itself. This issue provides both a deep engagement with the archive and a set of major theoretical interventions. We look forward to continuing the tradition of fall thematic issues over the coming years.

The fall 2017 issue marks the close of our one-year transition to Duke University Press as the new publisher of JKS. Beginning in spring 2018, Duke University Press will take on increased copyediting and administrative responsibilities. We are pleased to enter into this new, fuller partnership with Duke.

Publication of the Journal of Korean Studies is made possible by a generous grant from the Academy of Korean Studies. For more information on JKS, please visit the following websites: http://jks.weai.columbia.edu/; https://www.dukeupress.edu/journal-of-korean-studies/?viewby=journal.
