In the field of Tibetan studies, researchers are increasingly uncovering and publishing information about outstanding women, allowing readers to better understand Tibetan women's lives and roles. This trend is a breakthrough in the history of Tibetan women. Elisabeth Benard's book, The Sakya Jetsunmas: The Hidden World of Tibetan Female Lamas is one such case. The book explores the lives of female Tibetan Buddhist lamas, the Sakya Jetsunmas, whose achievements are hidden or subordinated in the archives. Bernard does this through interviews with living family members as well as through close readings of Tibetan texts such as biographies of their fathers, uncles, brothers, nephews, and teachers. After reading the book, my realization of some issues affecting Tibetan women was confirmed and deepened.
