Yoon Hong-key is an “old hand” in the Western study of fengshui, otherwise known as Chinese geomancy. His doctoral dissertation on the Korean version of this ancient art was published in 1976, just two years after Stephan Feuchtwang's seminal study (An Anthropological Analysis of Chinese Geomancy [Vientiane: Editions Vithangna, 1974; Bangkok: White Lotus, 2002]). Virtually every serious study of fengshui since then has cited these two scholars. Due largely to the contemporary popularity of fengshui, both scholars have revisited their work of three decades ago. Feuchtwang has merely reissued his under a new cover, whereas Yoon has thankfully expanded his original study (Geomantic Relationships between Culture and Nature in Korea [Taipei: Orient Culture Service, 1976]). The book under review incorporates all of Yoon's research on fengshui since 1976.
