Jan O. M. Broek is Associate Professor in Geography at the University of California, Berkeley, California. From 1942 to 1945 he was Research Associate at the American Council, Institute of Pacific Relations, New York, taught at the Naval School of Military Government, Columbia University, and served in the U. S. Military Intelligence and the Office of Strategic Services. His publications include The economic development of the Netherlands Indies, Institute of Pacific Relations, New York, 1942, and “Diversity and unity in Southeast Asia,” Geographical review, April, 1944.
