Marcella Wagner, seven and one-half months pregnant, was driving on a California interstate to California State University, Chico, where she had recently returned to study nursing. Suddenly, another car swerved in front of her, and Marcella, to avoid the collision, quickly turned the wheel. Her car ran off the interstate and rolled over, crushing the roof. The other driver sped off and was never found. Marcella was left a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. The baby survived, having been born a bit premature but, given the circumstances, very healthy. The doctor said that Marcella's body acted like a human air bag for “Logan.”
