Media coverage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) focuses almost exclusively on expanded medical coverage, Medicare cuts, and lack of cost control. As a result, many other important provisions in the ACA have been lost from view. Essays in this section highlight those provisions and consider their potential impact. Harold A. Pollack delves into the provisions dealing with health promotion and prevention. Mark A. Hall focuses on the ACA's efforts to expand the safety net, in particular, those provisions expanding community health centers and public hospitals and allowing for increased access to providers. David Mechanic explores how mental health coverage will change under the ACA, and David M. Frankford examines the significance of a new program, the CLASS Act, for covering long-term care expenses.
