Erratum for Esther Acevedo, review of Maximilian and Carlota: Europe's Last Empire in Mexico. Hispanic American Historical Review 95 (2015): 159–60.
The Hispanic American Historical Review editorial staff regret the misunderstanding that appeared in the review of M. M. McAllen's Maximilian and Carlota: Europe's Last Empire in Mexico (Trinity University Press, 2014) in the February 2015 issue of the journal regarding the author's use of primary sources. In an otherwise reasoned statement of the biography's contribution to the historical literature on the significance of the Second Empire in mid-nineteenth-century Mexico, the reviewer stated that the author had consulted only archival materials available in Europe; however, McAllen did research archives and newspaper collections in Mexico. We regret the resulting misrepresentation in the published review.
