This bibliography will be of more interest to the general reader than to the specialist in Latin American studies. It is primarily a printing of the catalog of Professor Wilgus’ personal library. He tells us in the foreword: “At one time or another all of these books have been in my library and I have read each one of them in whole or in part. They have been selected from those appearing in the quarterly publication ‘Doors to Latin America,’ which I have compiled in various forms during the past forty years . . .” (p. xiii). The annotated list includes only selected books and pamphlets published in the United States between 1954 and 1974. Many important works are missing, and the nature of the bibliography obviously excludes Spanish and Portuguese language titles other than those translated to English. Interesting features are sections on adult fiction and children’s books (nonfiction and fiction) in the Latin American setting. All entries are annotated and the bibliography contains an index of names.
