The Organization of American States is sponsoring an international competition in honor of the Bicentennial of the Independence of the United States. Two topics have been selected for this competition: “Participation of Latin

America in the Independence of the U.S.A.,” and “Influence of the Independence of the U.S.A. in the Fonnation of Latin American Nationalities.” The winning manuscripts in each category will receive a prize of U.S. $5,000.00.

The Clarence H. Haring Prize is awarded every five years to that Latin American who, in the opinion of the committee, has published the most outstanding book in Latin American history during the preceding five years. The prize carries a cash award of $500.00. Books published since June 1, 1971 will be eligible for the prize in 1976. There is no language limitation on works submitted. The Social Science Research Council and the American Council of Learned Societies announces fellowships for doctoral dissertation research and special preparatory training in the social sciences and the humanities on topics related to aspects of cultural, economic, political, social, and scientific development in Latin America or the Caribbean. The 1976 Conference of the Society of Latin American Studies (Great Britain), is to be held at the University of Leicester from the 26th to the 28th March, 1976.
