The Second Trans-Pacific Seminar of the Australian Society for Latin American Studies was held at the Royal Society of Victoria, Melbourne, June 20-22, 1975. The program subject was “Minerals across the Pacific: Bridge or Barrier?”

A Seminar Committee, composed of Noel Deschamps, H. W. Arndt, J. R. Anderson, J. Byth, and C. Veliz, planned the three days of sessions to include papers and discussions on “Mineral Resources: Long Term Issues and Prospects”; “Issues of Government Ownership and Control: The Range of Policies and Practicalities”; “Further Processing—National Asset or Liability?”; “Price, Extraction Rate and Other Implications for Long-Term Policy”; “Transpacific Cooperation in Technology, Capital and Trade.”

Participants included representatives from academic institutions, industry, and government in Australia and Latin America, as well as Japan and the United States.
