This Ph.D. dissertation, completed in 1959 about field work carried on in 1956 and based on the census of 1950, is a now archaic rural sociological description of the boundary identification of fifteen Oaxaca communities. While the data are generally superficial, and there is too much time spent in fruitless conceptionalizing, the sociologist or geographer of Oaxaca may find items of useful information.
