Academic Writer’s Guide to Periodicals. Vol. I: Latin American Studies

This is the first in a series of handbooks for writers of scholarly articles. It lists the journals that publish articles in English on Latin America and includes an index by subject, period, and geographical area covered. Through a questionnaire, information has been secured on the name of the editor, editorial address, frequency of publication, number of subscribers, subjects and areas covered, and editorial policies regarding length, style manual used, and special requirements. It is a useful compilation, but not a substitute for examination of the journal in question. Since authors may often secure publication in translation in a Latin American journal, the language limitation is unfortunate, especially from the point of view of the novice author. In addition, there have been some omissions, for instance, of The South Atlantic Quarterly. Finally, journals that did not respond to the questionnaire are simply listed and the compilers might usefully have consulted these few themselves for inclusion in the indices.
