The appearance of a revised edition of James J. Parsons’ Antioqueño Colonization in Western Colombia makes available once again a fine book. But even more important, the new edition is much changed—for the better. Parsons’ work is so well known little need be said about its coverage or approach, except to wish for similar works of cultural geography concerning other areas of Latin America. As Parsons points out in the preface, most of the changes in this edition are in the chapters on population, transportation, and industrial development. The rest of the material in the book has been brought up to date and corrected wherever necessary.
