This is a collection of papers presented at the fourth annual meeting of the Catholic Inter-American Cooperation Program. Their subjects are almost as varied as the title suggests. Unfortunately, the book has no unifying theme, and none of the papers offers significant new data or insights. There are a few succinct and meaty summary statements which may be useful to people unfamiliar with the abundant literature on topics such as birth control (J. Mayone Stycos), trade unions (Adolpho Bonilla), international labor organization (Henry Landsberger), and international military relations (Michael Francis). However, the 23 other papers fall short of even that limited aim. In brief, the book has little to offer to historians or other students of Hispanic America.
