This is one of the most interesting and descriptive travel accounts I have seen. It reveals impressions of many difficult to reach places in southern Argentina and Chile, including Tierra del Fuego. Some of these have hardly ever been visited by outsiders, even Chileans and Argentines. It is a record of four trips by the author and a few companions in four successive summers. They climbed previously unclimbed peaks. The author in his presentation shows love and common sense. He was an experienced member of the British diplomatic service who did this at a ripe age, but has had exploring experience since youth. This is a good book, useful for the classroom supplementary reading list. It is also a most presentable book with some beautiful photos.
