This is a most useful booklet. I wish we had something like it for every Latin American city. It is a most adequate “síntesis histórico de escuelas y colegios desde la fundación de la ciudad de Santa Cruz [Bolivia] hasta nuestros días.” It was published as one more monograph in honor of the quadricentennial festivities of Santa Cruz (1561-1961). Santa Cruz, quite isolated during its history, has the honor of having a far above average literacy index. Santa Cruz has produced Bolivia’s best historians, largely because of its superior educational facilities. In view of this the Peredo study is of importance in the educational history of Bolivia. It is a work of patience and much research.
