This is another journalistic description of Mexico. For the expert it adds little if nothing new to Mexican travel literature. But in Europe Mexico still remains a land of far away fascination. One is amazed that although modern communications have made the world so small Europeans—Germans in this case—are still full of stereotyped ideas about Latin America. This book is proof of this. There is through the book a sort of childish snobbishness mixed with flashes of honest reporting. The author also is annoyingly anti-American and his needling compromises his search for the truth. At the same time the many misconceptions are balanced with good writing style, organization, and color of description. The illustrations are excellent.
