Since the academic world learned of Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala's Nueva corónica y buen gobierno in the early twentieth century, this text has attracted the attention of scholars from various disciplines. Scholarly analyses of Guaman Poma de Ayala's work, both discursive and ethnographic, often focus specifically on the Nueva corónica, but the text appears even more extensively in ethnohistoric and anthropological work that relies on it as a source of information on various aspects of pre-Hispanic and colonial Andean society. The richness and complexity of the Nueva corónica would probably make it impossible for a single book to cover all aspects of the text, but Rolena Adorno and Ivan Boserup's edited volume of essays does an excellent job of presenting a representative sample of current scholarship from various disciplines and perspectives.
