As we begin our term as senior editors of the Hispanic American Historical Review, we look forward with excitement to the five years ahead. With the support of the HAHR editorial board, we aim to explore how digital innovations can help a rigorous and prestigious scholarly journal emerge as a model twenty-first-century academic enterprise. For almost a century, the journal has published the most innovative and engaging scholarly research. Now, new approaches from the digital humanities will allow us to open up knowledge production and distribution to broader audiences. Over the next five years, we plan to use social media, blogs, and open peer review to foster a collaborative environment that welcomes the historical community into more active dialogue and debate.
