Everyone with Internet now has free access to Guaman Poma’s stupendous 1615 illustrated chronicle of Peru, thanks to the Royal Library of Denmark’s online edition (http://www.kb.dk/elib/mss/poma/index-en.htm). Rolena Adorno, Reuben Post Halleck Professor of Spanish Literature at Yale, together with the Royal Library’s Keeper of Manuscripts and Rare Books, Ivan Boserup, have provided in both print and Internet a growing corpus of analytical aids. New Studies offers three new technical surveys based on intensive material study of the manuscript original. The first collates Guaman Poma’s inconsistently revised paginations with “actual” pagination by modern editors. The second concerns the physical assembly of the manuscript (codicology). The third compares watermarks in the paper with those in the two related manuscripts by Guaman Poma’s onetime employer, Fr. Martín de Murúa.
