To the Shores of Chile is Mark Meuwese's translation of and short introductory study to the Journael ende historis verhael van de reyse gedaen by oosten de straet la Maire, naer de custen van Chili describing Hendrick Brouwer's expedition to Valdivia, published as part of the Pennsylvania State University Press's Latin American Originals series. The anonymous Journael ende historis, originally published in Amsterdam in 1646, follows this Dutch expedition to southern Chile from its departure from the Netherlands on November 7, 1642, to its return to Recife on December 28, 1643.
