La Marr Jurelle Bruce
La Marr Jurelle Bruce is assistant professor of American studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. His first book, How to Go Mad without Losing Your Mind: Madness and Black Radical Creativity (forthcoming 2019), is a study of black artists who mobilize madness for radical art-making, self-making, and world-making. His second book, “The Afromantic,” will unfurl a cultural history, critical theory, and aesthetic expression of black love and joy amid antiblackness.
