CALL FOR PAPERS

“Children and Childhood in the French-Speaking World”

What other histories might come into view if we are attentive to childhood, age, and time as they have been articulated against and beyond the colonial conquest of land and people? How might neglected sources and alternative methods that engage with young people as social actors, historical agents, and intellectual producers, allow us to uncover still-buried histories? How can we reckon with silences, power, and the limits of language in doing this work?

We invite contributions to a special issue of French Historical Studies on children, race, and empire in the French-speaking world from the medieval period to the present. View the full Call for Papers.
