anna brickhouse is professor of English and American studies at the University of Virginia. Her first book, Transamerican Literary Relations and the Nineteenth-Century Public Sphere (2004), was awarded the Gustave O. Arlt Award from the Council of Graduate Schools as well as Honorable Mention for the American Studies Association’s Laura Romero First Book Prize. Her second book, The Unsettlement of America (2014), was a cowinner of the Early American Literature Book Prize and winner of the Modern Language Association’s James Russell Lowell Prize as well as Honorable Mention for the ASA’s John Hope Franklin Prize. She is researching a project on translation and catastrophe.
