Artist Statement, Photographs from “Written in Memory”
Jeffrey Wolin is Ruth N. Halls Professor of Photography at Indiana University. Wolin's series of portraits of Holocaust survivors, Written in Memory: Portraits of the Holocaust, was published by Chronicle Books, accompanying solo exhibitions of this work at the Art Institute of Chicago and the International Center of Photography in New York. His Inconvenient Stories: Portraits of Vietnam War Veterans (Umbrage Editions) opened at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago in fall 2005. His photographs are in the permanent collections of numerous museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Houston Museum of Fine Arts; Art Institute of Chicago; Cleveland Museum of Art; New York Public Library; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Bibliotèque Nationale de France, Paris; and Museum of Modern Art, New York.
