Marjorie Garber is Professor of English and Director of the Center for Literary and Cultural Studies at Harvard University. Her most recent book is Shakespeare's Ghostwriters: Literature as Uncanny Causality (New York: Methuen, 1987). She is currently completing a study of transvestism entitled “Cross-dressing and Cultural Anxiety,” of which this is a part.
