Resumen

Poca investigación se ha efectuado para obtener información sobre el crecimiento y cambios de la Población Negra de los Estados Unidos en el siglo pasado. Deficiencias en los datos censales y la ausencia de sistemas vitales de inscripci6n, hacen imposible calcular muchas de las tasas demográficas mas usadas. Sin embargo modelos de población esiable se pueden ajustar a la población Negra y obtener así varws parametros. Parece ser que la población negra creció rapidamente por lo menos hasia 1880—porque la tasa de mortalidad sobrepasa 50, mientras que la lasa de mortalidad estuvo alrededor de SO. La esperanza aproximada de vida era SO años al nacer Y 40 arios a los diez años de edad.
