This piece introduces the six brief essays assembled in the themed section “Dwelling.” Comprising ethnographic and historical research from South Africa, China, India, Malaysia, and Zimbabwe, these essays invite cross-regional discussion on the labors and meanings of dwelling under conditions of precarity, migration, militarization, state surveillance, upheaval, and displacement.
