Abstract
With the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), it is increasingly clear that the environmental impacts of these technologies are significant, and worth exposing to the public. This article discusses the environmental impacts of generative artificial intelligence and the political underpinnings of extractivist technologies such as cloud companies. It highlights the centralized system of power that demands subservience to its foundational values despite being touted as the most environmentally friendly cloud infrastructure globally.
