Abstract
In this memorial of the Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo (1936–2023), Simonetta Moro traces a biographical sketch of one of Europe's foremost contemporary thinkers, highlighting the legacy of freedom that is perhaps one of the unifying characteristics of his multi‐dimensional philosophical thought—freedom that should not be understood in a metaphysical sense but as liberation from dogmas, from certainties, and from a foundational concept of truth, which is performed and disseminated throughout his work, rather than theorized. One finds an unparalleled example of this freedom in Vattimo's life and teaching, while being solicited to reexamine his work in light of ever new interpretative possibilities.
