This chapter features Patricia Ybarra’s interview with Machos director and Teatro Luna cofounder Coya Paz. In this interview, Paz elucidates how Teatro Luna created Machos, sharing that the group initially sought to interview men about Latina women and to perform as men talking about Latina women. Paz then asserts that while the company members shared an investment in exploring the interiorities of and social pressures placed on racialized men, not all the members shared a similar investment in doing this work from a feminist perspective. Finally, Paz describes some of the potentially injurious consequences of racialized men’s “survival” masculinities to women and queer men.
